For the Love of Pets!

We all know how much we love our pets. They are great companions and they can be lots of fun — but did you know they can also be good for our health?

Healthy Pets, Healthy People

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Pets can increase opportunities to exercise, get outside, and socialize. Regular walking or playing with pets can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels.  They can help manage loneliness and depression by giving us companionship.

“Studies have shown that the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring happiness to their owners.”

The CDC has some good information about the benefits of pet ownership, how to pick the right pet, and how to stay healthy around pets. You can find this information on their website at http://cdc.gov/healthypets/health-benefits

The American Kennel Club also has great information about choosing the right breed and “all things dogs!” Check it out at http://akc.org
